Irvine Beat FM’s very own Norie B is set to walk around the Isle of Cumbrae in order to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, and to help raise awareness of the disease.
Norie who presents the Sunday mid-morning show is hoping to raise over £1000 by organising a March for Men which will see him and others walk over 10.2 miles around Cumbrae on 30 September.
Norie was inspired to take on the walk for Prostate Cancer UK after being diagnosed with the disease earlier this year.
He said: “I have decided to organise a March for Men walk around the Isle of Cumbrae for Prostate Cancer UK and I am really looking forward to the challenge and I’m delighted to be raising awareness and much needed money to help beat the disease.”
James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “It’s fantastic to see that Norie has decided to organise this event to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. We want to encourage as many people as possible to take part and help us raise £1 million through our walking programme, March for Men.
“Currently one man an hour dies from prostate cancer in the UK. That’s 11,000 men a year. Based on current trends, by 2030 prostate cancer is predicted to be the most common cancer overall. Whether you are doing a local walk or an epic challenge, you’ll be helping us push for real change, from more effective testing to better treatments.”
You can sponsor Norie by visiting his Just Giving page which can be found online at the following address: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/noriesmarchformen
In addition to donating online, Norie is also looking for people to join him for the walk or even just part of the challenge. For more information on this you can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
