More about Iain…

Iain has been involved with radio for a number of years now.
Here are a few questions that Iain answered for us in order to find out a little bit more about Irvine Beat FM’s “Classic Soul” presenter.

How did you get into broadcasting?

Involved as a pupil in starting the first School Radio Station in Scotland. Interest grew from there. Also started running my own mobile Discotheques at age 15 then progressed to study Electronics with a view to working in Broadcast Engineering and then joined STV & Radio Clyde within the Engineering Dept. Outside broadcasts (OB’s) then were in abundance and particularly good fun. Had always wanted to try the on-air stuff opposed to the tech so here we are…

Random encounter with any celebrity?

Absolutely! When at STV met Charlton Heston, Sofie Loren, Larry Hagman amongst many local 70s celebs like Mary Marquis, John Toy, Andy Stewart, Fran & Anna, Jack McLaughlin and loads of other Scottish Celebs. Radio Clyde allowed me to meet and work with all the “261” Dj’s at the time in the 70s, 80s.

Music preferences?

Music preference is Classic Soul & Disco, music however I also like Smooth Rock, Smooth Jazz and Easy Listening, you know typical “Ease into Sunday Morning” type of music.

Any surprising facts that your regular listeners may not know about you?

I had the chance to play in a tennis tournament at Wimbledon in year 2000 and Birthday is Christmas Day.

Sum up Irvine in a few words?

Fantastic coastal town with great views and easy access to Arran and the Isles.

1st 7″ vinyl record ever bought?

Knock Three Times by Dawn on Bell Records ( Remember the silver label?) 1970.

The “chosen few”, choice records…

“How Long” by ACE. Favourite soul song is “Baby Don’t Change Your Mind” – Gladys Knight & The Pips. Favourite soul love song is “Sweet Love” – Anita Baker.
